Check my list of Emotions for MidJourney v5 here:
You might be interested to know that not all emotions are treated equally. Some are interpreted very precisely, others have intermediate variations, and others don’t come close to what is expected. However, this is how MJ interprets them, and having a visual reference can be helpful. Moreover, the best reference is to use them. With characters created by MJ itself, I don’t know how it actually works, but many interesting images emerge. What if we apply some emotions to well-known celebrities? Without going into too much detail, I’ve tested with Buster Keaton, the “stone-faced” actor, and Leonardo DiCaprio. The former because I expect him not to be very expressive (and that’s the case), and the latter because his portraits tend to be quite faithful (some characters are nearly impossible to make resemble the original even slightly).
The results:
In the case of Buster Keaton, I was sure that he wouldn’t show much emotion. First, because that was his role, and in his real life, I don’t remember seeing a single image of him even smiling. This, of course, affects MJ’s training model. If there are no images of Keaton bursting into laughter, it’s difficult for it to generate one. But it should be able to do it, right?
The case of DiCaprio is curious because there are indeed images of him in all kinds of situations and with a lot of expressiveness, yet some emotions prove difficult. Others, however, are perfectly well-rendered.
The ideal catalog should include men and women of all ages, well-known by everyone, whether they are actors, politicians, spiritual leaders, or athletes. And it should combine all these subjects with the nearly 300 emotions included in the list. I’m not going to do it… do you dare to?
